Sunday, June 5, 2011 - Day 112
Carl's Grandma Rivir stopped by this Sunday along with his parents to check out the progress on the house. The painters were finishing up the painting. They were sanding the walls, filling in divots and then finishing off the painting. Enjoy the pictures!
Preparing the walls to paint.
They painted the front door, trim around the front door, and garage door trim.
They also painted the trim around the back windows and door.
All the beautiful interior doors lined up in the den!

Oh Crap!
We're back to blogging about the house. Someone made a demand that we post something NOW! You know who you are... Jim & Linda.
Well, the house building project got a little set back by about a week and a half. The guy doing the staining mixed the wrong thinner in his top coat sealant and it all cracked and bubbled and looked terrible.
Luckily they had only sprayed the upstairs and a little bit of trim in the master bedroom and laundry room. So, they replaced all the ruined trim, window jambs, and door frames and started over.
A picture of one of the windows...
Some bad trim. Doesn't that look terrible?
They had to order 11 new door frames:
And the dumpster started filling up:

We have a few more posts for today that are a lot more positive than this one. I guess you can't have a building project without a few screw ups!

Is that a Stain I See?
Wednesday, May 18, 2011 - Day 94
The painters came on Wednesday to start staining the trim and interior doors. They're going to be working for a few days on that and then start painting the walls. Everything is coming together quickly now! If everything goes well, we could be closing and moving in as early as June 16! We'll see how it goes.
Here’s some sample stained pieces that they gave us to look at. The rectangular piece on top is the color of our kitchen cabinets.
The painters’ minivan!
Walking in from the garage…
The stained patio door.
The painters were hard at work staining doors in the great room!
Here’s a view from the front corner of the master bedroom, looking back out to the great room on the right and the master bath on the left.
And, finally, here’s the view from the doorway of the master bedroom, looking out over the front yard.
Enjoy the pictures. We’ll have a lot more next week!

Breaking Ground on the Garden!
Saturday May 14, 2011
We actually had a nice sunny afternoon this past weekend with only a few moments of rain. So, seizing on the opportunity, Carl rented a tiller and started working up the garden plot at the new house. After about 5 hours of hard work, cutting down trees and weeds, raking away the dead weed trash on the ground, and running over the plot with the tiller about 8 times...we have a start on the garden! Then Lindsey showed up and wanted to expand it a little bit, so we added a few feet on one end. We're going to let it sit for about a week and then tear it up again and plant. Can't wait to start planting!

We Have Doors and Trim!
Tuesday, May 10, 2011 - Day 86
The builders got a lot done last week. They got the walls and ceilings primed, installed the interior doors, and started the trim. After we get them straightened out on a few details, they should finish up the trim later this week. After that it will be on to painting the walls and staining the trim. The light brown primer color you see in the pictures is a shade lighter than the actual paint will be. Enjoy the pictures!
Here's one of the upstairs bedrooms, showing the room door and the French doors on the closet.
Here's a look out the other upstairs bedroom. The front windows are all 3 wide casement. They're starting to look great with the nice new trim framing them.

Finished Drywall & Priming
Sunday May 1, 2011 - Day 77
Another week down and the drywall is finally done. They finished installing everything, mudding the joints and spraying the spanish lace ceilings during the week. The painters showed up on Saturday to prime everything. Enjoy the pictures!
Here's Carl standing in the kitchen just after they finished up the drywall and mud.
These guys are fearless!
Here's Lindsey posing in the kitchen after the walls were primed on Saturday.
